Raised in the backwater province of Crowthorne, Cara finds her fate bound to a system she despises and a goddess she no longer believes in. When it becomes clear that the heir to the Elbian throne has found disfavor in the eyes of the goddess, Cara is ordained by blood to take her cousin's place as heir apparent.
One man from each twelve provinces are chosen by the royal council to pledge their lives and swords as champions and consorts of the future queen. From these men, Cara must choose the future king of Elbia. Before she is able to take her place on the throne, Cara and her Twelve must visit each province and perform a sacred ceremony, one that will make Cara question everything she thought was real.
Cara soon realizes that not all of the men who swore to protect her are what they seem, and that there are those who would use her as a tool to gain power.
Cara's Twelve is a refreshingly different, romantic fantasy story of fair maidens and fearless warriors in a medieval land.

Review
"If you think this is just a casual romance, then you will be in for a surprise. This is not your run of the mill fantasy as well. The story is gripping, the characters are well developed, and there is the perfect amount of drama, thrill and mystery to make it one of the best fantasy novels I have read. The characters are strong and you will even love the bad guys because they are written so well. Five stars for a job well done!" - Rabia Tanveer, Readers' Favorite
"The author has woven together romance, mystery, whimsy, intrigue and adventure very well. There are twists and turns in the plot as the story progresses, and the author masterfully blends the sub plots into the main plot. The book has everything that makes it a compelling story. It's fast paced and readers will not be able to put it down." - Mamta Madhavan, Readers' Favorite
Seabrook's romantic epic fantasy, Cara's Twelve, is well-written and very entertaining. The plot is well constructed, and the author's fantasy world seems real and suitably complex. Cara's Twelve is highly recommended. Five Stars." - Jack Magnus, Readers' Favorite

A refreshingly different fantasy story
By Alana Woods
What a refreshingly different fantasy story!
I’m so tired of dragons and am so over the magic that characters can resort to or call upon in countless other fantasy tales.
How pleasant to find myself getting caught up in a story that—although categorised as fantasy because the setting is a medieval otherworld—has its feet firmly planted in reality. Yes, there is a goddess, but there has been and still are many different religions on Earth, so why not in Cara’s world.
This is the first novel by Chantel Seabrook of which I’m aware and if she keeps on the path she’s taken with Cara’s twelve then I see myself reading more of her work when published.
The story arc is good, taking us from the moment Cara learns of a new fate that awaits her, following her through the trials and obstacles she must overcome before finally reaching that destiny.
Seabrook is economical with detail and descriptions and at times I felt myself wanting more depth. But better to err on the side of keeping your readers wanting than to bore them with too much.
I liked the characterisation. There are the bad guys as well as the good. One comment I have is that the good guys are portrayed as very human with weaknesses as well as strengths, but the bad guys are devoid of any redeeming features. But in such a setting and timeframe, and given the prize everyone is after, I suppose it’s not unbelievable for villains to be so completely single-mindedly rapacious.
Use of language and dialogue are good. The use of modern day speech in the dialogue—such as ‘Piss off’—threw me the first few times but I ended up accepting it as the familiar terms let me know exactly what the characters were feeling.
And if you like sex scenes then Cara’s twelve won’t disappoint. I always wonder what an author’s motivation is for including explicit sex. Is it just to reach a wider readership than the book otherwise would? Or is the sex integral to the story? I think Seabrook could put up a sound argument for the latter in this case. It would be spoiling the story to give much detail but how Cara handles her relations with the Twelve is crucial to the story, and sex is very much part of the relationships.
The one criticism I have is the number of misspellings and other errors throughout. The book is a good read, but it would be preferable not to have to skip over these. But don’t let this put you off. Cara’s twelve is worth the hours you spend between the covers.

Pride and Passion?
By Broadway Turk Superstar
Cara’s Twelve by Chantel Seabrook is a well-crafted Shakespearean tragedy set in a medieval land where deception, treachery and murder mark a bloody path to the Elbian throne. It has been decreed that an heir to the throne be anointed, and Cara of Crowthorne appears to be the chosen one. Only the reigning King and the treacherous Queen have their own agenda, and each sow seeds of betrayal designed to eliminate Cara from the internecine competition. Tradition decrees that a representative from each of the twelve provinces of Elbia be afforded a chance to court the lady in waiting, the winner crowned as King alongside the new Queen. More than one of these men are agents given the task of eliminating their rivals, and it becomes apparent that Cara herself may become one of the victims.
Seabrook weaves a clever tale of suspense and intrigue as we find Cara in competition with her own cousin, the fair Maeve. Only Maeve becomes one of the first victims which causes the twelve suitors to take sides in the conflict. Finn and Tahdaon are the major protagonists, stepping up to protect and defend the cousins as the conspiracy begins to take shape. Edmund is dynamic as the major antagonist, his strategy and tactics evolving from menacing innuendo to ruthless predation as the conflict unfolds. Eventually the storyline erupts into a thrilling climax as Cara and Maeve find their very lives at stake. The suitors are forced to stake their claims with their lives in the balance.
This is a breath of fresh air, a throwback to the days of myth and legend, devoid of wizards and dragons. This is all about fair maidens and fearless warriors and their pursuit of their dreams and destinies. Pick up a copy of Cara’s Twelve by Chantel Seabrook and enjoy the romance and adventure of centuries past.

By Frank Scozzari
Reading until dawn! Wow. I was barely able to put this book down for a second after the first few pages got me completely hooked. Characters you will love and hate jump out of the pages in a weaving plot that is treacherous, deeply romantic, imaginative, and above all, entertaining. Cara, queen to be, is set forth on a mission to visit the twelve provinces of Elbia; each with a chivalrous swordsman seeking her hand. Or are they chivalrous?
Deceit, gallantry, and suspense reign as Cara makes her journey through this whimsical land, encounters dangers, and has to grapple with various life choices. She grows personally as she tackles one adventure and peril after another. The medieval setting is portrayed beautifully, including all the romanticism, honor, corruption, and greed associated with those times. Vivid descriptions and action placed me right into the pages.
Chantel Seabrook’s narrative is intimate, dramatic, hugely imaginative, and incredibly compelling. Overall, I can’t say enough about this novel and the storytelling style. I think this book is destined to become one of the great fantasy stories written in the past fifty years.
