Just the same old...

This book should be titled "SEM Overview with some SEO sprinkled in".

It contains misinformation, misconceptions, and myths (particularly on CMS and dynamic sites that use query strings). There about 40-50 pages in this book that are worth reading in regards to SEO, and misses out on a lot more. SEM gets a lot of pages (how to run a PPC campaign) and the rest is fluff.

What's missing? To start: no recommendations on real SEO implementation, just that you should do things. Sure, you should write a good Title tag and Meta Description, but how long should they be? What density of keywords? Should you try to get more than one keyword in a Title tag?

Inbound links section is woefully short, 10 pages of real content, 2 pages covering directories, and the directories to submit to is a list five entries long. There are many more that count than these five.

Following the steps in this book can certainly get a site headed in the right direction, but if your market is already competitive in terms of SEO, this is just the tip of the iceberg, and it doesn't really give a structure for understanding how much work is involved (there is a lot of it) or how long it will really take.

All in all, you can get all this and much much more from just a few web sites. If you feel you need to read it on paper, then print the sites out.

Long on Words -- Short on Expertise

The first thing you should read in this book is the author's bio on the back cover. You'll discover that her expertise is freelance business writing, not SEO. That will go a long way in explaining why her book just skims the surface of this complex subject and will provide you with precious little information you can actually use. This book has lots of words, but very little expertise and no depth.

Her discussion of meta tags, title tags, and meta name descriptions, for example, goes no further than explaining what a meta tag looks like. She writes, "Such a tag for the search engine optimization page might look like this:" She then shows us an example...and then moves on to other subjects. There is no in-depth discussion of how to write these critically important tags, how to use or not use keywords or keyword phrases in these tags, no discusses relating to keyword denisty or character length in meta tags or practical example of how sucessful meta tags are written. All you'll be given is an example of what a meta tag looks like. And that's why this book can be described in one word -- shallow.

If you need a bigger clue, this "expert" in SEO has not created any website or blog for her book. Try Googling "SEO Bible" and see what you get. It won't be her book. Sure, there's a page ranking compliments of Amazon.com. But that wasn't her doing. She hasn't even created anything TO optimize. This person probably knows a lot about research and writing -- but knows very little about SEO. Don't be sucked in by the title. This book is not worth it.

Shoots high, falls low

I read so many good reviews about this book before I purchased it, as it was praised to be one of the best books out there on the subject of SEO. But I found it to be extremely disappointing. While reading the book I kept on thinking to myself that what the author had very little to say but managed to spread it out on 300 pages, by repeating the same mantras over and over. You could summarize the entire book in 20 well written pages. If this is the SEO bible, I would have preferred the 10 commandments. Did not learn all that much from this book.

ATC Test Prep Book

Great book to get a feel for the test. Several parts of the test are moving on a computer screen and this book cannot display only describe what to expect. Good all around basic test questions to get the feel for what to expect. As of 3/2014 a new testing period has been started and I do not know if this is what the test is yet. Good book!!

Robert M. Clark has been an intelligence analyst for 36 years, currently serving as an independent consultant assessing threats to U.S. space systems. He helped develop and is a faculty member for the Intelligence Community Officers Course. Clark is the former president and CEO of the Scientific and Technical Analysis Corporation. He served in the United States Air Force as an electronics warfare officer and intelligence officer, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel, and in the CIA as an analyst and as the chief of the Directorate of Intelligences Analytic Support Group. Clark holds an SB from MIT, a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, and a JD from George Washington University. He is a presidential interchange executive, a member of the Virginia state bar, and a patent attorney.

Excellent introduction for utter newbies

It's called The Technical Collection of Intelligence but it's not technical. Consider it a general review of the work product of sensors and the high level capabilities of the platforms on which they rely. If you are a complete novice to this subject, as I was, you are given enough information to start thinking about (and researching) the actual technical capabilities in play and to imagine the beginnings of various collection plans.

Had to purchase this book for class. Although highly technical content, it reads very well and is organized pretty good. Probably wouldn't have purchased if it wasn't for class. But am actually enjoying the information presented. Just wish it was cheaper.

This book grew out of my desire to understand the mechanics of nanomaterials, and to be able to rationalize in my own mind the variety of topics on which the people around me were doing research at the time. The ?eld of nanomaterials has been growing rapidly since the early 1990s. I- tially, the ?eld was populated mostly by researchers working in the ?elds of synt- sis and processing. These scientists were able to make new materials much faster than the rest of us could develop ways of looking at them (or understanding them). However, a con?uence of interests and capabilities in the 1990s led to the exp- sive growth of papers in the characterization and modeling parts of the ?eld. That con?uence came from three primary directions: the rapid growth in our ability to make nanomaterials, a relatively newfound ability to characterize the nanomate- als at the appropriate length and time scales, and the rapid growth in our ability to model nanomaterials at atomistic and molecular scales. Simultaneously, the commercial potential of nanotechnology has become app- ent to most high-technology industries, as well as to some industries that are tra- tionally not viewed as high-technology (such as textiles). Much of the rapid growth came through the inventions of physicists and chemists who were able to develop nanotechnology products (nanomaterials) through a dizzying array of routes, and who began to interface directly with biological entities at the nanometer scale. That growth continues unabated.

The enabling science in much of nanotechnology today is the science of nanomaterials; indeed in the broadest sense, nanotechnology would not be possible without nanomaterials. Nanomaterials: Mechanics and Mechanisms seeks to provide an entrè into the field for mechanical engineers, material scientists, chemical and biomedical engineers and physicists. The objective is to provide the reader with the connections needed to understand the intense activity in the area of the mechanics of nanomaterials, and to develop ways of thinking about these new materials that could be useful to both research and application. The book covers all of the fundamentals of the mechanical properties of materials in a highly readable style, and integrates most of the literature on the emerging field of nanomaterials into a coherent body of knowledge.

This volume provides a basic understanding of mechanics and materials, and specifically nanomaterials and nanomechanics, in one self-contained text. Graduate and advanced undergraduate students will find well-organized chapters that provide the necessary background in mechanics, mechanical properties and modeling. classical treatment; no quantum mechanics

Ramesh furnishes a description of nanomaterials well suited for an engineer or scientist from a variety of disciplines. The treatment is characterised by staying in the classical regime. This is not a quantum treatment.

Instead, the descriptions of such important ideas like deformation, elasticity and strain should be familiar from textbooks covering larger scales.

What is perhaps most different is the excursion into experimental methods. Many new techniques have been devised to handle the small scales involved, like nanoindentation and microcompression. Fascinating and ingenious. You should find the explanations easy to follow. Ramesh concentrates on the essentials of each method without drowning you in experimental details.

The book includes examples of both legionary fortresses and auxiliary forts from the German provinces to demonstrate that more material-cultural approaches to the artefact assemblages from these sites give greater insights into how these military communities operated and demonstrate the problems of ascribing functions to buildings without investigating the full material record.

About the Author
Penelope Allison is Reader in Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Leicester. She has been teaching ancient history and archaeology for nearly thirty years and has also held a number of research posts, including an Australian Research Council Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship at the Australian National University, Australian Bicentennial Fellowship in the Faculty of Classics, University of Cambridge, and Visiting Fellowship at St John's College, University of Durham. A Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities, she has written and edited several groundbreaking books on Roman archaeology and household archaeology, including The Archaeology of Household Activities (1999), Pompeian Households: An Analysis of the Material Culture, and The Insula of the Menander in Pompeii III: The Finds, A Contextual Study (2006).

She has achieved publishing success in the fields of adult fiction, children’s literature, newspaper journalism, feature magazine articles, and poetry. She holds a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing from the University of Denver and a Master’s in Religion from Northwest Nazarene University. She currently writes and teaches college English.

A great read

This is a good introduction for young kids who aren't familiar with the dark days of slavery. The plot follows 2 young kids, escaped slaves, on their way to freedom. The kids are traveling alone after losing their Mom, and they face many struggles and obstacles on the way. Fortunately, they find good people who help them. As all good journey stories, the kids also travel deep into themselves as they need to cope with their deepest fears. The route the kids follow is historically correct, and I liked that very much. However, there are some parts where the story gets too deep into religion believes, and I thought there was too much of that. But still, this is a great read.

I enjoy a book that teaches me something

I received a free copy of The Journey Home by Nancy Segovia in exchange for a review and was immediately impressed by the book’s beginning. As an impatient reader, I found the poignancy of this story and the plight of the African American youngsters separated from their mother in a desperate flight for freedom from slavery gripping me from the first page. While the “underground railroad” was a familiar term, I knew little of the network that assisted fleeing slaves or the hazards that threatened the success their escape. Today’s cry that “black lives matter” obviously began a century and a half ago when basic human rights were denied black Africans who were kidnapped and imported to serve white landowners in the South. Family ties were neither recognized nor respected; parents and children were separated at the whim of white owners who often treated them as sub-human. Thomas and Cassie’s journey began with a backdrop of baying hounds hot on their scent as the terrified youngsters tried to follow their mother’s directions that would ultimately lead them to freedom. Throughout their treacherous trip, they were helped by a variety of opposers of slavery who risked their own freedom to assist the escapees that passed their way. For me, the history lesson was as valuable as the story was entertaining. I enjoy a book that teaches me something, grants me new insights, and introduces me to rich characters who become more real with each page. The Journey Home is a fascinating read that meets all three criteria.

Uplifting Tale of Faith

The Journey Home by Nancy Segovia is an extraordinary account of the underground railroad saving escaped slaves many years before the Civil War. This is brilliantly written, lovingly told, richly described family read that will make you live through the feelings of two escaped child slaves.
Thomas and Cassie have been separated from their mother. Hunters with killer hounds are on their trail and closing fast. Winter is also their enemy. No food, water, constantly in fear of being caught, these two marvels find faith in God and mankind as they are swept along in an amazing adventure that will leave the reader breathless.
Not since Roots have I read such an incredible account of the secret community of good-minded souls willing to die to save escaped slaves. This is a testament to faith overcoming despair. Well done to the author for invoking such strong feelings that adequately mirror those of the characters.
An absolute must read for all fans of historical fiction.
