Excellent curriculum, good for homeschoolers.

I've used this textbook to teach ninth grade Biology with two homeschoolers. I've really enjoyed using this curriculum. The websites and links mostly work, which is enough for me. I didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars on new textbooks, but the students still had access to nearly all of the multimedia materials available online.

This is a challenging textbook, and the kids have really enjoyed it. Like all Biology curricula, memorization is important, but the colorful pages and informative text explain the concepts well.

What I love most about this book is the resources that are ...

It's a decent biology book for high school students. Some of the humorous attempts are going to become a little cheesy with time, but the information is presented in a teen-friendly manner at least. I generally teach in an order that is fairly close to the order of the chapters in this book, however it's not exact so I deviate a little. What I love most about this book is the resources that are available to go with it. There are worksheets on a variety of levels and they are all tailored to fit each individual section.

SIMPLY EXCELLENT AND GROUND-BREAKING

Alessandra Comini is brilliant. She thematically and chonologically follows the formal expressions inherent in Schiele's portraits in a study which has been repeatedly quoted from and alluded to by German-speaking scholars and social historians of the Austo-Hungarian empire alike. This is a study which is always free of moral rhetoric and one whose analytical prowess is unmatched. Her explanation of space and composition is illuminating. Furthermore, she patiently and eloquently traces the technical virtuosity of Schiele's portraits with unbounded esprit and effortless descriptions. This is very much the case especially in the masturbation masterpieces of 1910 (Delirium and Melancholia) whose reading elsewhere is often sacrificed at the expense of a psychological appropriation within a framework of the erotics of the self. Further marks of exceptional scholarship are found in the way the art historian articulates Schiele's use of the doppleganger, and not least to Schile's relationship with Klimt. The relationship between the two Austrians receives what amounted to a re-definition of the supposed deference Schiele nrtured for Klimt. This in Schiele scholarship has become the final word on the subject illuminated by a particularly inspired visual narrative discussing the Hermits portrait.
"Egon Schile's Portraits" is a study that is consistently fertile and exhaustive, focused and instructive; it offers a wealth of insights and details which allows the artist to come to the fore more so than the troubles of the man, even when the two overlap considerably (which is inevitable). In addition Comini mines and uproots the artistic landscape of Schiele's time (Klinger's etching cycle "on Death"; and Klimt's exhibition at the Wiener Werkstatte of 1907) to show his posturing within it more so than the influence one may find inherent in the etchings and watercolors (with continual cross-references to Van Gogh and Matisse). Always careful to corroberate her interpretations of intentions through letters and correspondence Schiele exchanged, Comini's orientations of the compositional and dispositional views remain fully inscribed and rooted in a context from which Schile worked and through which his work is described. Finallly this work is nothing short of ground-breaking in how it details the means through which physical attributes and mannerisms, mutations and mutilations, theatrics and lay-out contribute to make Schiele's work the embodiment of an age, an art, and a vision which on its technical merits alone receives marks of genius - and referencing its social import requires continued reflection. Perhaps the finest source of information on Egon Schiele

Alessandra Comini has published more books and catalogues on the art and life of Austrian artist Egon Schiele than any other writer. The personal favorite of this reader has been the succinct but intensely informative and visually documented 1976 volume simply titled EGON SCHIELE, but sadly that is out of print. But those who are absorbed by the idiosyncratic work of the artist of both bizarre life and bizarre paintings may rest assured that this large volume contains not only most of the information Comini has contributed tot he world literature, but also adds the bonus of a very close examination of the Portraits.

For Schiele nearly all of his paintings (with the possible exception of his gorgeously bleak landscapes) were portraits, whether named as such or no. But Schiele's eye was focused on the raw psyche Freud was unveiling and his preoccupation with the sensual, the erotic, and the dark dies of this subjects is what makes them unique. Schiele was a tortured man, not only from his own strident personal issues, but also form the public response to his art. An outcast, he never stopped painting the prepubescent girls he entertained in his studio, nor did he ever tire of his self portraits, works that range from the most savagely aroused eroticism to the frightened eyes of a man at odds with the art world and indeed with the world at large.

Comini suffuses this superb array of reproductions of Schiele's genius with straight forward, authoritative, non-judgmental and even adoration writing. The symbols and body gestures of his models are investigated and examined and explained. Comini is an art scholar but she writes with a style that reads like a novel. For those looking for a definitive basis of work on the art of Egon Schiele this volume is a fine starting point. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, February 06

Describes every kind of technique

They weren't kidding when they named this book the Ultimate Guide to Guitar Techniques. This book was a great purchase for me. It introduced me to numerous techniques. I could not do a pull off, but after sticking with it, I'm doing the all the time. This book addressed the concept of downward pressure as it applies to the fretting notes with your left hand. The exercises have helped me tremendously. I can stretch, minimize movement and I'm gaining more and more finger independence. This book is defiitely the book that every guitarist should have because it is a bible of guitar techniques. I highly recommend this book. Even if the exercises get a little difficult, I stick with it and, "voila", suddenly, I have it down and it has become a part of my playing style. More than I expected.

Awesome

For anyone who is trying to learn more about music and the kind of tips that help you grow as a player this book is awesome. I have bought several of the Musician's Institute guitar books and they are all excellent in instruction of music and guitar. I highly recommend any of their books to anyone who is trying to teach themselves guitar playing.

This book covers all the techniques you need to know to play contemporary music and all examples in the book have an audio demonstration. Practice with this book an hour a day, and believe me - you'll see a lot of progress.

Disappointing

Although not a boring read at all, I was a little bit disappointed when I discovered the hidden personality behind the face of this "great" man. He is obviously a genius. He obviously knows how to read rugby, and do analysis like its nobody's business. On top of that he seems like he's also an excellent manager of people and has a great eye for talent.

The book however, does not discuss much of that at all. In fact, if you're hoping to learn anything about rugby coaching etc. then DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK, because you will be very disappointed.

Instead it seems like its a massive ramble of all Henry's accomplishments (there are quite a few of them to be fair). And the rest is dedicated to complaining about how he's been cheated out of pretty much every match he's ever lost. I'm not kidding. He spends about 3 chapters discussing how NZ was cheated out of the 2007 World Cup. In 2009 when NZ lost 3 games in a row to South Africa, he doesn't give credit to the Springboks at all. Instead he says that the rules of rugby were rubbish at the time, favoring defensive sides. When he couldn't use those excuses, then he lost "because of injuries to key players, or even that the training conditions provided by the opposing nation wasn't up to scratch." Not once did I see him say: "They figured us out. And were better than us on the day".

It's pretty sad that a man who's achieved so much in the field of rugby can't simply admit when he's been beaten. Really thought he had more character than that.

The mighty can stumble

Great insight into the soul of a man who looks as though he is tough as old boots but has a sensitive aspect, befitting teacher and coach. Not written with the polish of say Sir Clive Woodward or the humour of say Lawrence Dallaglio but an engrossing piece of work.

The book is great, I am not going to lie. It has a lot of information and offers a great Ddx page in the index that can help out any dentist. The book is clear in its definitions of the diseases, treatment and what to look for radiographically, histologically and clinically. I give it two stars because the publisher doesn't have the kindle version edited to be in page number form like some other kindle books do. This is necessary for a book of this type in order to flip back and forth from index to disease. Please, this is an electronic copy, I should be able to click on the chapters, click on the disease and have it take me straight there. I shouldn't have to hunt it down. And don't bother searching for the terms. It will link you even to the reference pages and you will have to hunt down search by search to get what you want. Stick with the paper copy. And what is the purpose of zooming in on the photo if it just blurs it anyway? Lazy, lazy kindle transfer.

One of the finest oral pathology textbooks for all dental specialties

"Neville and Damm", as it is affectionately called, is one the best (if not the best) all around textbook in oral pathology available. This latest edition contains numerous updates in this ever expanding field and is probably owned by every oral pathologist, as well as many MD/DO pathologists, and is included in many dental school oral pathology curricula. Although oral pathologists typically study and source more advanced texts for certain complicated cases, they always have this handy. I would recommend this textbook to dental students, dental residents, any residents of pathology, and any clinicians typically dealing with oral and maxillofacial disease. The collection of clinical pictures, recommended treatments, and the differential diagnoses in the appendix, combined with the detailed writings contained therein, make this an excellent textbook.
